AS9100 readiness

AS9100 is a quality management standard for aviation, space, and defense organizations. It builds on ISO 9001 and adds requirements many aerospace buyers expect from their suppliers.

What it is

AS9100 describes how a supplier controls its processes, documents its work, manages risk, and fixes problems. It covers areas such as configuration management, product safety, and counterfeit parts prevention.

Certification is issued by an accredited registrar (a certification body), not by WolfSpotter. WolfSpotter helps shops prepare for the registrar's audit; we do not certify shops.

Who needs it

Shops that want to supply aerospace primes and many defense subcontractors. Some buyers require certification before placing work; others accept a supplier that is working toward it. Check each buyer's supplier requirements.

First steps

  1. Run a gap assessment comparing how your shop works today against the standard.
  2. Document the processes the standard requires, written the way your shop actually operates.
  3. Train your people and run the system long enough to produce records.
  4. Conduct internal audits and a management review.
  5. Track and close corrective actions, then select an accredited registrar for the certification audit.

Common mistakes

  • Buying generic manual templates that do not match how the shop works.
  • Scheduling the registrar audit before the system has produced records.
  • Treating internal audits as paperwork instead of a real check.
  • Leaving corrective actions open without root-cause analysis.

Where to confirm the official requirement

This is general information, not legal or compliance advice. Confirm current requirements with the agency, the prime, or your own adviser.
